Scary-Creepy Halloween Costumes for 2011

Halloween seems to always be near. You can always feel the creepy air and dark feelings one gets when this scary day approaches. Scary Halloween costumes seems to be a large topic among people these days. There are so many options and available ideas than ever before. Many people like to copy the scary movies and have a design costume pertaining to a horror character like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, or Freddy Cruger.

The funny thing is that even though there are hundreds of different Halloween costumes you can come up with, some of the most popular scary costumes are still the old fashion ones like Dracula, Frankenstein, Wear wolf, and the Mummy.

I still see many versions of these costumes every Halloween night and some of them are very frightening. Of course, we all know that they are not real but with some ingenuity, you can really make a boring costume come alive.

Dracula. Instead of a boring Dracula, how about spicing it up a bit? Here is how:
Add some yellow to the white face for a more morbid look. Perhaps some face peeling kit to make the skin look like it is falling off. Remember, Dracula is over a few hundred years old.

Frankenstein. Try and keep the typical version. You know, big boots, green face and square looking head but how about the eyes? How about investing in some black colored contact lenses to give a real creepy look?

Werewolf. This one may be tough but how about getting some extensions for your hairy feet? Try and make yourself 6-7 feet tall if you can. That would be one scary werewolf for sure!

Mummy. Try adding some rubber bugs to your cloth-costume. Have a few "fake" bones hanging out of an arm or leg.

Many Halloween costumes can be scary if you make them scary. Remember, Halloween is a time of the year to let loose and be the creepiest looking person for the day.

Grand Haunted House Tour Magazine

By Chris Dotson

This Halloween season, Haunted Attraction Magazine will be sponsoring a Grand Tour of Haunted Houses throughout the country. It will be like their version of the CBS's popular reality show - The Amazing Race.

Twenty four different states and over 70 Haunted Houses, Hayrides and Haunted Trails across the country are on the schedule. Reviewer and intrepid traveler, John Kennedy, will be flying/driving to haunted houses all across the country to bring you pictures and reviews of some of the countries best and most interesting Haunted Houses. The tour began in late September and will continue until the 2009 Halloween season is over.

On October 12, the Grand Tour stopped to visit a few of the
Denver Haunted Houses
. John was able to get to four different haunted attractions. He stopped first at Primitive Fear and 13th Street Manor in Commerce City and finished the night up at the Legendary 13th Door Haunted House and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch in South Denver. Here is a sample of what John wrote in his blog after seeing the 13th Door and Slaughterhouse Gulch.

"My second stop of the night took me to visit The 13th Door and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch Haunted Houses. These two haunts are located in a former shopping center in Denver but are very different haunts. I visited 13th Door Haunted House first.

The haunt is themed as a hotel with a good story behind the haunt. The Barrington Hotel was owned by wealthy Denver Millionaire, John Barrington. On a cold October night in 1912, John Barrington, was throwing his annual All Hallows Eve party in the Hotel's Penthouse suite. Unfortunately, a disgruntled nephew with a gambling problem starts a fire killing everyone inside, except for one person who found the 13th door.

Unfortunately, I got there later in the evening and had to go through by myself, but I still enjoyed the haunt. The haunt has good scenes and energetic actors who were doing their best to scare. There is a good variety of scenes and has plenty of dark spaces.

The second haunt I visited was Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch which is similar to 13th Door but edgier and more intense. As you can guess by the name, it is a slaughterhouse themed haunt. This attraction featured solid scenes and enthusiastic actors just like 13th Door."

When this Grand Tour ends it will have gone over 15,000 miles! Most of the tour will traveled via the trusty Haunted Attraction Hybrid with a couple airplane trips to get out west.

You can follow Johns adventures as he travels across the country via his Blog at http://www.hauntedattraction.com or you can follow him on Twitter @hauntmagazine. Happy Haunting, John!

Best Haunted Houses of Denver

By Chris Dotson

Every city has their haunted house, real good ones that provide great services according to Realhaunts.com. Denver in this case is no exception to this rule. Here are some of the best haunted houses provided in Denver that are a residence to some very interesting ghosts.

The Molly Brown House in Denver. This unusual house is definitely one of the scariest of all, even the employees that work there have reported unusual activity taking place in the work area. Tons of thrills to make you jump such as shadows moving around you when no light can be found to produce them, piano keys moving in sequence when no sound is made. Lots of people comment that throughout the house they get a slight smell of cigar smoke, Mr. Brown was known to be an avid smoker.

The home has been carefully restored back as close as it can be to the way Molly Brown had it when she was a resident of Denver. The house's atmosphere is full of the rich essence of the past. Sometimes it seems that Mr. and Ms. Brown are more trying to welcome you to their home rather than scare you away, with the way they tend to their guests.

The State Capitol Building. Bet you didn't know that the Colorado State Capitol Building is connected by a series of tunnels. Once being used for moving coal to provide a source of heating now is home to much darker reasons. A dark female figure that is known to wear long turn of the century style dresses is known to haunt the area. She roams from all the buildings and the tunnel network. Very inquisitive, the scary figure has been known to be sited reading over the shoulders of the employees that work there. And you thought politics were the scary ones haha.

The Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. This building much like the capitol is connected with cold dark eary tunnels known to be the home of many okward sounds such as coughing. Many say they have sighted the same ghost from the capitol building here as well.

Who knows maybe she is in search for more promising news at the hotel. The food is certainly better. Bradmar Tudor Manor can be found in a extensive and private, sparsely populated area on the countryside outside the city in Denver Colorado. This Manor is located at the end of a dark long road, lined with with giant cottonwood trees. This manor is privately owned, beware the owner and their privacy.

The Buckhorn Exchange Restaurant. Presently at the moment a restaurant, originally when the fur trade began, this spooky building was one of the first trading posts in its area. This building is definitely haunted by many of the old traders that were there long ago. Many reports of tables moving suddenly. Not to mention the reports of people hearing voices when no one was talking and footsteps when no other people were to be found.

The only problem with a real haunted house is that the ghost has to be in the mood to scare you. You might be waiting a bit for them to do so. To get scares right away though try and visit one of Denvers Haunted Houses in the area. Many of Denvers best haunted houses are: 13th Door Haunted House, Slaughterhouse Gulch Haunt, Haunted Mansion, 25th Hour, City of the Dead and The Butcher.

Now that Halloween has finally rolled around, here is you chance to see real ghost to scare you!

What Halloween Means to Me

halloween-meaning
Halloween is a time of the year where you can be anyone or anything you wish.

My personality changes during Halloween because I feel when I am wearing a costume or mask, I am able to get away with acting silly or like an idiot all-together. I get in a mood at times during Halloween to scare people, especially my girlfriend. Sometimes I take it a step too far and usually get yelled at.

My experiences with Halloween as a kid growing up were always fun and exciting. I always loved the fact that my mom would always warn us not to eat any candy until after trick-or-treating dinner that night. Yeah, right. Never! Ha.

How hard is it for a kid to have a full bag of assorted candies and chocolates and NOT eat any? I do believe my "sour stomach" excuse ran out while sitting at the dinner table on Halloween night to not eat.

I am now a full, grown adult but still a kid at heart. I may not go trick-or-treating any more but there are times that I wish I could go back in time to do it just one more time.
I miss the competition I had amongst my friends with who had the scariest or craziest Halloween costume. I usually won almost every time.

eyesglow.gif (9776 bytes)

I owe most of my winnings to my older brother who also loved Halloween and blood--guts stuff. He was always willing to take the extra time to decorate me before he ventured off into the creepy night dressed as a ghoul or monster.

Halloween is a great time of the year and if I ever have kids, I hope to bring them up to enjoy Halloween as I did.
